The Provincial Museum of Natural History (MPHN) reported that until Friday 29 of this year, it will remain closed to the public in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This exceptional measure is due to the holding of the Workshop ‘Digital tools and open data on biodiversity’. The activity will be developed within the framework of the MPHN-UNLPam Virtual Collections project, which is funded by the National Interuniversity Council of Argentina (CIN) and the Argentine-European University Alliance.
The main objective of the project is to promote a digital transformation that allows the collections of the Provincial Museum of Natural History, as well as other archives of natural and biological sciences housed in the National University of La Pampa (UNLPam) to be progressively published on the web. In this way, it seeks to democratize access to knowledge and value the regional scientific heritage.
The workshop has the active participation of the members of the project, as well as teachers, researchers, doctoral fellows and students of the UNLPam, who will work on the upload, management and opening of valuable biological data. The Museum thanked visitors for their understanding of the inconvenience that this temporary change of schedule may cause, highlighting that the result of this work will allow the institution’s heritage to be soon accessible to all through digital platforms.
