Next Saturday, the Parque Luro Provincial Reserve will be the scene of the ‘Alas del Caldenal’ Photographic Contest, a free activity open to amateurs over 16 years of age. The challenge: to portray the architecture, flora and fauna of the place in a single day.

The Parque Luro Provincial Reserve will become the ideal setting for photography lovers, the Secretariat of Tourism announced today. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Photographic Contest ‘Alas del Caldenal’ will be held, a free proposal aimed at amateurs over 16 years of age who want to explore their artistic gaze in full contact with nature.

Participants must take three photos throughout the day, one for each category: Architecture, Flora and Fauna, and they will be able to do so both with a professional camera and with their own cell phone.

Among the prizes, a stay at Estancia La Holanda stands out, along with paintings and other gifts. The election of the winners, meanwhile, will be defined by popular vote through the contest’s Instagram account, which adds an interactive side to the proposal.

The activity was presented today morning at the Secretariat of Tourism, with the presence of the head of the area Saúl Echeveste; the Undersecretary of Tourism Development, Vanina Martínez, the director of Parque Luro Provincial Reserve, Arnaldo Orozco, and the representative of the organization of the contest, Miriam Moreno.

“Within the framework of World Birdwatching Day, we want to invite all the photographs of La Pampa to go to the Provincial Reserve. What this contest seeks is to be able to look at our heritage with different eyes, from the architecture of the Reserve, to its flora and fauna,” he added.

Bird guides

Then he remarked “not long ago this Secretariat for the first time presented to the people of La Pampa more than 10 birdwatching guides, guides that have been a tool for this area, not only to promote different tourist destinations, but also to value our protected areas. Bird watching is a new product of nature tourism and more than 1000 species live in Argentina, of which 320 have been registered in the province of La Pampa due to their presence in their ecoregions.”

For his part, Moreno explained the importance of registering through a form to participate in the contest. “It is a totally free activity, but it is important that you register in the form that is online: @yoamolapampa until tomorrow, May 8, because the contest will be on Saturday 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Photographs can be submitted until the 12th. There the jury will take some time to choose the 12 finalists who will be published on Instagram, so that the population through the networks can choose the three winners,” she said.

Moreno stated that “participants can’t manipulate the images so much, just a basic development is allowed, with minimal cropping and adjustment of contrast, color and not much else.” Finally, she referred to the bases and conditions that can be found online. “There the people interested will find a map where the places chosen to photograph are perfectly delimited. Remember that above all things we have to take care of the natural environment where we are going to be immersed, so it is important to respect that plane.”
