The exhibition, curated by artisan and cultural manager Segundo Deferrari, will be open until August 2nd in rooms 9 and 10 of the Palacio Libertad in Buenos Aires. It features leatherwork, saddlery, and other leather goods that combine traditional techniques with contemporary designs, many of which are available for purchase. La Pampa’s participation is channeled through the La Pampa Artisan Market, showcasing works by renowned artisans from the province.
“The La Pampa Artisan Market is a link, like many others across the country, that enriches this space where the knowledge and expertise of artisans converge,” Andrea Pombar, Director of Artisan Production at the Secretariat of Tourism, told to the Provincial News Agency. “This is a new opportunity to showcase something so uniquely ours, like leather crafts, with a strong La Pampa identity.”, she added.
Pombar also highlighted the presence of artisans from La Pampa in the exhibition. “We brought pieces from three artisans: a riding crop by Ugarte Mendía, another by Matías Dos Santos, and works by Laura García. We are very proud of their careers and how this knowledge travels beyond the province,” she stated. The exhibition’s curator, Segundo Deferrari, emphasized the federal and collaborative nature of the project. “It’s a joint effort that brings together works from different artisan markets across the country. There’s a wide variety of pieces that showcase the plasticity of leather, from utilitarian objects to symbolic works,” he explained.
Regarding the participation from La Pampa, Deferrari valued the presence of new generations. “We are fortunate to have the work of Matías and Juan, from La Pampa. It’s very interesting to see this continuity between master and apprentice,” he said. Among the artisans present is Matías Dos Santos, an 18-year-old leatherworker from General Acha, who is exhibiting a traditional riding crop.
“It’s a traditional whip from La Pampa, made using the methods and techniques employed in the province,” he explained. Regarding his participation, he said that “it’s an honor for me to be here and to be able to showcase this work. It’s important to keep making them so that the craft isn’t lost.”
Representing the Casa de La Pampa were Agustín Guaycochea, from the Cultural Department, and Stefania Ramburger, from Institutional Relations.
