La Pampa’s Ministry of Health reported that vaccination against the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) just began for pregnant women between weeks 32 and 36 of gestation to provide protection from bronchiolitis in unborn children.

The main objective of this strategy is to protect newborns against bronchiolitis, a common respiratory disease in childhood that can have serious consequences in the first months of life.

The vaccine has been shown to be safe and effective, stated the health authorities. Its application in pregnant women allows antibodies to be transmitted to the baby before birth, providing immediate defenses against RSV. Thanks to this measure, a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of bronchiolitis in pediatrics has been observed.

  • Vaccination is recommended for all pregnant women between 32 and 36 weeks of gestation.

  • Complete the remaining vaccination schedule: acellular triple bacterial from the 20th week of gestation, protects both against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.

The application is carried out in public health centers distributed throughout the province, free of charge. No medical indication is required.

This strategy allows all pregnant women to receive vaccines by approaching the nearest health center and guaranteeing the best protection for their children from the first day of life, Health authorities concluded.
