La Pampa: Civil Defense requests maximum caution to prevent rural fires

Civil Defense of the Government of La Pampa, Argentina, informed the community that, due to the current adverse weather conditions, the risk of rural and forest fires increases significantly, so it is requested to take extreme prevention and care measures.

The combination of prolonged drought, high temperatures and strong winds generates a highly propitious scenario for the start and rapid spread of fire. In this context, any igneous focus, no matter how small, can be transformed into a large fire in a very short time, putting human lives, homes, animals, production and the environment at risk.

Civil Defense warned about the poor state of pits, a situation that not only favors the advance of eventual fires, but also seriously hinders the work of brigade members and emergency teams when fighting them. The lack of adequate access delays the arrival of resources, complicates control tasks and increases the danger for the personnel involved.

For this reason, producers, field owners and the general population are requested to:

Do not burn of any kind.
Avoid throwing cigarette butts or objects that can generate sparks.
Keep pits, firebreaks and accesses to rural establishments clean and in good conditions.
Immediately notify the authorities if smoke or fire is detected.

Authorities stated that prevention is a shared responsibility. In that way, the collaboration of the whole community is essential to reduce the risk of fires and protect both people and natural resources.
