The fines amounted $ 203,825,000, an average of 1,178,000 pesos for each sanction. The news, published in today Official Gazette, were reported by the Minister of Government and Municipal Affairs, Pascual Fernández.
Among the main items of the firms that received fines for not complying with Law 24 240 on Consumer Defense, financial services companies, banks, online sales of goods for personal use and vehicle savings plans stand out among those that accumulate the most complaints and sanctions.
The general director of Consumer Defense, Florencia Rabario, explained that the Consumer Defense Law authorizes sanctions ranging from warnings to economic fines. The amount of the penalty depends on multiple factors to be taken into account: the event that generated the penalty, the damages caused to the consumer, the size of the company (if it is a local company, is national, or is a multinational), the history of previous sanctions, etc.
