The initiative was accompanied by institutions committed to social welfare, such as PAMI, the Argentine Red Cross, the Pampean Association of Podiatrists and Pedicurists, the Lions Club, the College of Nutritionists and LIPADI (Pampean League of Help to Diabetics), who together with the Ministry of Health joined forces to generate a space for meeting, education and care. Interdisciplinary teams from the Ministry of Health advised on diabetes prevention, addressing issues such as healthy eating, regular physical activity, the importance of glycemic monitoring and the impact of social determinants on the development of this pathology. In addition, an informative talk and a space for dialogue with the community were offered, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
More activities #
Cintia Zalabardo, Undersecretary of Social and Community Health, highlighted to the Provincial News Agency that the activity “is added to a series that we have been developing in different parts of the city and the Province, as part of a public policy that has as its central axis the participation of the community; highlighting what it means to re-educate, raise awareness and accompany people in the care of their health and in the strengthening of local care networks. This Saturday, for example, we will hold a promotion day in Oliver Park, open to the entire community.”
Comprehensive approach #
“Diabetes is a complex disease that requires a comprehensive approach, centered on the person and supported by interdisciplinary teams. In our Provincial Health Network, each patient is accompanied by professionals from different areas who work in an articulated way to guarantee personalized and effective treatment,” explained Zalabardo. “Our strategies are based on the promotion of community health, addressing the social determinants that affect people’s well-being. This involves identifying local problems, defining priority populations and developing collaborative interventions in the territory,” she added.
Territorial and articulated health #
Meanwhile, Patricia Aguiar, director of Socio-sanitary Strategy, reported that the Undersecretary of Social and Community Health “has been developing a sustained work of articulation with institutions and organizations of civil society, with the aim of strengthening health promotion strategies in the field. This year, with regard to diabetes, the central axis of these actions is framed under the slogan ‘Diabetes and Well-being’, which calls for making this chronic disease visible and promoting healthy habits that contribute to its prevention, early detection and adequate control.”
As part of this campaign, two community activities will be carried out in Santa Rosa: a walk on Tuesday 18, with a meeting point at the intersection of Luro Avenue and Gentile Street, area of influence of the Río Atuel and Villa Santillán health centers; and a recreational day on Saturday in Oliver Park, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with institutional stands, the presence of professionals from different disciplines to answer questions, and physical activities such as zumba classes and folk dances. It will be a meeting space to promote body movement, healthy eating and self-care, remarked APN.
Health construction #
Aguiar emphasized that “to achieve the best possible state of health, from the provincial government we understand that health is not built exclusively within hospitals, but is forged in the territory, with the active participation of the community. Through the work of health promoters, who carry out home visits and surveys, a direct bridge is generated between people and the available health services. They guide, inform and link those who need it with the nearest care centers. The institutional commitment is to continue promoting spaces for participation, listening and accompaniment, where each person can consult, be informed and feel part of a care network, because health is a right, and its construction is collective,” she concluded.
