Digging on curiosity and science.

Four members of the Provincial Museum of Natural History (MPH) - Lucas Cheme Arriaga, Miguel Santillán, Pedro Tallade, and Pablo Tejerina - attended the First Latin American Congress on Natural Science Collections, held from October 21 to 24, at the Auditorium of Maimónides University, in the city of Buenos Aires.

The meeting, organized by the Félix de Azara Natural History Foundation along with the Argentine Herbarium Association (AHA), brought together specialists from different provinces of the country and from other Latin American countries. The congress provided a space for exchange and updates on management, conservation, and documentation practices of scientific collections.

Workshops, courses, and presentations were held, where experiences and work strategies were shared among professionals from museums, universities, and research centers. The participation allowed the representatives of the Museum to learn about new tools and strengthen ties with institutions in the region.

They participated in specific courses on the conditioning of fossils for their entry into the collection, with the possibility of accessing new techniques, materials, and procedures. They acquired knowledge about the digitization of materials and the use of appropriate furniture for the storage and care of specimens.

They also participated in a workshop on basic conservation techniques for amphibians and reptiles, focused on practical procedures for the preservation of biological specimens.

All this learning enriches and optimizes the conservation tasks carried out at the MPHN, and participation in this congress constitutes a significant contribution to strengthening the scientific collections of La Pampa, while reaffirming the institutional commitment to the continuous training of its staff and the preservation of natural heritage, stated Provincial Agency News (APN)
