At the opening ceremony, the Secretary of Environment and Climate Change, Vanina Basso, accompanied by the Undersecretary of Climate Change, Florencia Ricard, and the Deputy Director of Environment and Climate Change, Lucía Docampo, highlighted the importance of maintaining strong coordination with municipalities, highlighting the Province’s active presence in various national and international arenas, as well as the programs it promotes at the local level, including Urban Lungs for Climate Action, which implementation will begin next month.
Basso noted that the Municipal Roundtable will address two major areas of work on this occasion: the implementation of a Registry of Extreme Climate Events, which will systematize information on droughts, floods, heat waves, and severe storms, and the development of a joint document reflecting the measures adopted, the barriers, and the main needs of each locality.
“The Province promotes these initiatives because we understand that climate change is addressed through shared assessments, listening firsthand to each mayor and each community. Climate management cannot be done in isolation: it requires coordination and support,” Basso emphasized. The event brought together the mayors of the towns of Embajador Martini, Doblas, and Alpachiri, along with environmental representatives from Macachín, General Acha, Toay, Quemú Quemú, Colonia 25 de Mayo, Santa Isabel, General Pico, Speluzzi, Realicó, Colonia Barón, Villa Mirasol, and Miguel Cané, among others.
With this seventh edition, the Municipal Coordination Roundtable reaffirmed its role as a space for collective construction, where the La Pampa’s government not only convenes but also provides tools and technical support to local administrations to advance climate change adaptation and mitigation policies.
