Colorado River Aqueduct repaired without cutting off the supply to Santa Rosa and Toay

Aguas del Colorado (SAPEM) reported that it has completed the repair of the Colorado River Aqueduct without interrupting the supply of drinking water to Santa Rosa and Toay, due to the availability of three cisterns built in the capital of La Pampa, which allow water strategic reserves.

The company explained that the work was completed at 10:30 p.m. this Thursday, at which point the filling process of the repaired section began, an essential step before fully restoring water delivery through the pipeline.

The break occurred at station 97.630 of the aqueduct’s route, approximately 166 kilometers from Santa Rosa, in a 1000-millimeter diameter GRP pipeline. A crew from Aguas del Colorado worked in the area to solve the issue.

Aguas del Colorado explained that the filling process of the repaired section is complex and requires several hours, and therefore recommended that the population continue to use the resource rationally until the system became fully operational.

Strategic Reserves

The repair was possible without interrupting the water supply thanks to the system’s three storage tanks, which have a total capacity of 15 million liters. These reserves are essential to maintaining the supply to both cities during the operation, albeit with a 50% reduction in water delivery.

The system cistern construction project was designed to meet the needs of the residents of Santa Rosa and Toay, ensuring reserves in case of maintenance work on the aqueduct and providing greater supply capacity during the summer, when drinking water consumption increases significantly.
